In the Goes Wrong fandom, 'Grovebean' is the name given to the pairing of Robert Grove and Chris Bean. If you write a story about Robert and Chris getting into romantic and/or sexual entanglements with each other, that's Grovebean fanfiction.

I have written a quantity of Grovebean fanfiction that might fairly be described as 'concerning'. I just find their dynamic fascinating! Robert is bizarrely obsessed with Chris in a way I can't get enough of.

Here, for those who enjoy their weird relationship as much as I do, is my Robert/Chris fanfiction, in the form of AO3 links. I've divided these into fics rated Teen and fics rated Mature; more recent works are at the top of each section. There's nothing especially explicit in here, but you may encounter the occasional mild sex scene.

Fics rated Teen (for readers thirteen and up):

Twice Shy (2026): Robert/Chris, 3,900 words.

“Ah,” Robert says. “I may have left out a crucial detail. You do know I’m a vampire, don’t you?”

Right. That is, in fact, exactly the conclusion Chris has been trying to avoid.

Rehearsals (2026): Robert/everyone, Robert/Chris, 2,300 words.

“Must you sleep your way through the drama society?” Chris asks. “It’s inappropriate, and it’s likely to cause... well, drama.”

“I doubt there’ll be any trouble,” Robert says. “Everyone fully understands that they’re aiding in rehearsals.”

“Rehearsals? What could you possibly be rehearsing for?”

“The performance,” Robert says, ominously.

Breaking the Closet (2026): Robert/Chris, 2,200 words.

“Left to his own devices,” Robert says, “Chris will simply continue to repress his homosexuality. We have a duty to help.”

“Wait, hold on.” Trevor raps his knuckles on the table. “Chris is gay? Did he tell you he’s gay?”

“Of course he didn’t tell me. He has no idea.”

Daybreak (2026): Robert & Chris, 700 words.

There are noises coming from the kitchen, someone moving around. Chris lives alone.

There is a burglar in his home. Someone has broken in, and they have apparently decided to make sausages.

The Verge (2026): Robert/Chris, slight Robert/Celia, 3,500 words.

Chris steels himself. “Do you ever feel something might... happen between us?”

“Vague, Chris.” Robert shakes his head. “The stage is no place for subtlety.”

Mixed Beans (2026): Robert/Chris, slight Robert/Celia, 2,800 words.

Robert books a romantic getaway with Chris's mother. There is a misunderstanding.

Ad Libitum (2026): Robert/Chris, 1,800 words.

Chris and Robert play lovers on stage. Things do not go as planned.

Chekhov's Knife (2026): Robert/Chris, 2,700 words.

“If Chris almost kills me,” Robert says, “he won’t be able to resent me for almost killing him. It’s ideal.”

“Er,” Annie says. “Is it?”

(Robert has the perfect plan for making things up to Chris after shooting him. Well, maybe 'perfect' isn't the right word.)

By Proxy (2026): Robert/Chris, past Robert/Celia and Chris/Robert's sister, 2,100 words.

“I wanted to speak to you about your dalliance with my sister,” Robert says.

“Well.” Chris swallows. “Well, yes. I suppose you would.”

Finding the Way (2026): implied Robert/Chris, 2,900 words.

Chris and Robert are stranded in the Amazon rainforest together. It's not a great experience.

Sleep Well (2026): Robert/Chris, slight everyone/everyone, 1,600 words.

On account of a booking mishap, the Cornley Drama Society are forced to share a single hotel room. The consequences are confusing.

Middle Ground (2026): Robert/Chris, 3,900 words.

“As I’ve unfortunately concluded that I’m in love with Chris,” Robert says, “I propose that I should play Ariadne to his Theseus.”

Chris takes a few seconds to let that sink in. It’s not sinking in. “What?”

Gone Astray (2026): Robert/Chris, 3,000 words.

After The Spirit of Christmas, someone has to get Robert home safely, and the role falls to an unwilling Chris.

Performance Notes (2026): Robert/Chris, Robert/everyone, 3,000 words.

The script Robert has written for the society to perform is, to say the least, extremely worrying.

Broken Hearts and Broken Bones (2026): Robert/Chris, 2,300 words.

Robert attempts to seduce Chris. His techniques leave a little to be desired.

Fics rated Mature (for readers fifteen and up):

The Other (2026): Robert/female Chris, 3,600 words.

“My alternate-universe self is a man,” Chris says. “And it didn’t occur to you to mention this?”

“Didn’t really strike me as a notable difference, I suppose,” Robert says, with a shrug. “He was just so obviously you.”

Adaptability (2026): Robert/Chris/Robert, 2,700 words.

“In the end,” Robert says, “I concluded that I was also the most qualified person to play Juliet. Therefore, I have decided to summon myself from an alternate universe.”

The Morning After, Or Not (2026): Robert/Chris, 1,700 words.

“Robert,” Chris says, scrambling through his mind in desperate search of some sort of clear recollection, “did we sleep together?”

There's also Cornley Ficlets: Grovebean, a collection of tiny Robert/Chris ficlets I've written, which I felt were too short to be posted individually.
